
Waterloo Region is located in Southern Ontario, about 100 km (60 miles) west of Toronto. The Region is made up of four rural townships (North Dumfries, Wellesley, Wilmot and Woolwich) and the cities of Cambridge, Kitchener, and Waterloo. The Region of Waterloo has both multicultural urban centres and smaller rural communities. The region has a population of approximately 498,000 (2005). It is home to two top ranked universities, the University of Waterloo and Wilfrid Laurier University, and home to Conestoga College, the top ranked college in Ontario. Waterloo Region has a diverse economy driven by innovation.
