Your Children's Education
The education of children is mandatory. It is the responsibility of parents to enroll their children in an elementary school. Responsibility for their children's education continues through to secondary school. There are schools in the Region designed to meet specific needs of children and parent's interests, heritage and circumstances. There are alternatives to sending children to school, as long as parents meet obligations established by the Ministry of Education.
Adult Education
Adult education focuses on the educational needs and interests of adults, and there are many adult educational opportunities in Waterloo Region. Adult education and training courses include high school courses to obtain a high school diploma, further education at a college and university, or training in an apprenticeship program. Another way of taking courses is through distance learning. Mentoring or coaching programs offer you an opportunity to meet people in your profession who can offer some advice on career options and strategies and learning about our businesses. English as a second language courses are there to help you learn English.
Talk to an educational counselor or vocational counselor about your plans and goals, and what will be required of you by the programs and schools you would like to attend. You can also talk to someone from the Admissions Office at the institution you are interested in attending to find out more about the programs and services they offer.
Agencies like The Multicultural Centre and the K-W YMCA can help you decide what steps you need to take next, whether you are interested in accreditation, continuing with your education, or translating documents required for admission or registration in a school or educational program.
